He picked her up on time. He brought flowers. He complimented her on her new dress. He held her hand. He opened the car door for her. He paid for the tickets. He stood in line and bought her butter soaked popcorn, chocolate covered raisins, and a diet coke, not commenting at all on the incongruity of that. He held the food as she took her seat.
